Ford GT price to be set at nearly $400k apparently. Higher price tag than I would have thought.

Same here. I thought this would be a Huracan level car not Aventador but I guess not. Very curious about the performance specs now.

I'm even more curious to see how it performs now. People might not spend that money for a Ford just because,it definitely has to measure up now.

It only needs to weigh 3800 lbs to have a better power to weight than an Aventador, and I would bet it's noticeably lighter.

That makes no fucking sense.

This car is basically a McLaren 650S, except with 6 cylinders instead of 8. They both use small twin turbo charged engines, DCTs, and a carbon fiber chassis.

The McLaren starts at $265,500.

The old one was around $150,000 in 2005, adjusted for today that's $179,498.46.

So inflation would account for only a $29,498.46 price increase, or about the price of a well equipped Fusion.

And I just don't see how it will

A hair under $250k, which is the number a lot of auto outlets were initially speculating would be the MSRP of the GT. Don't know where they got that number from but it makes a whole lot more sense than $400k.

I mean they are gonna have cars like the GT350/GT350R and Focus RS also the Raptor. I mean they need to knock off at least 250K to make it where it should be. I know they made 4000~ of the last gen but common. 400k for the GT is just too much.

we still don't know what car it's targetting performance wise. Ford said it would have one of the best power to weight ratios of any production car. What if it's stupid light? No longer competition for the hurrican and 458tt, 650s etc. I don't know if I were in the market for a LEMANS car for the road and not just another road car this is the street legal race car I'd buy.

also the 675lt or whatever is 345000 starting, I feel like that is a better comparison since its 220lbs less than the 650s

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > nafsucof

Kinja'd!!!2

Your question made me realize I missed something. I did not know that the GT is going to have carbon fiber body panels. I just did a Google search and found that is the case:

"It utilizes full carbon-fiber construction and body panels."

I think the 650S uses aluminum body panels. It has a carbon fiber chassis but not the body panels. So the GT will probably be lighter. How much lighter is the main question if it will really start around $400K.

You have to get the McLaren 675LT to get the carbon fiber body panels. Pricing has not been released for that car. It will be interesting to see what it will cost. If it's between $350-400K then the GT price won't look absurd though.

But I still think the GT (and the 675LT, if it is priced similarly) would have trouble selling at that price range. While there are a lot of rich people out there most of them would much rather spend $250-300K on their high end sports car than $400K for the slightly lighter version with carbon fiber body panels. The higher price and CF panels will make the car more expensive to insure (imagine the cost of replacing a panel after a fender bender). And you're going to get 95% of the usable performance and "status" with a 650S, Ferrari 488, Huracan, etc. for $300K or a bit under than you will if you spend $100K or so more on the GT or 675LT. None of these cars are true supercars, so spending $100K more doesn't get you to supercar status.

You're right

I was realizing that and typing while you wrote that

I couldn't find the price for the 675LT. It would be priced decently if it starts at $325K

03/02/2015 at 23:18

Kinja'd!!!1

I found actually it's 345,000 for the 675lt which is much closer to where I thought it be priced...that being said you are right about the 95% performance of the aforementioned others. I can't wait until the speculation is over and ford gives us some real numbers!

Yes! Give us numbers Ford!

I wonder if the V6 has any untapped potential for special editions of the car.

It would seem like they'd need to increase displacement a little bit to wring more power out of the motor. Which I'm sure they left some space for.
